In a previous blog post, I pointed you in the direction of an article detailing the steps necessary to get Shell Extensions working for VMware ThinApp packages. One of the disadvantages of virtualizing applications is the loss of local shell extension integration. This is most noticeable when trying to right-click an item that has a file type association to a virtualized application. You will notice that menu items you might suspect to show up are not there. Aaron Parker has written an article detailing the steps necessary to accomplish Shell Extension integration with Microsoft App-V packages. Aaron uses WinRAR (just like the ThinApp example) to demonstrate the necessary steps to modify the following tables in the MSI package:
- Component
- Registry
- FeatureComponents
- InstallExecuteSequence
