Microsoft Lists in Microsoft Teams: Productivity made easier

No dog days of summer for Microsoft. The tech giant has been busy with several Microsoft 365 enhancements, including rolling out the general availability of the Microsoft Lists app in July and then announcing the general availability of Lists in Microsoft Teams earlier this month.

What is Microsoft Lists?

Announced at Build 2020, Microsoft Lists is a productivity app that can help businesses and their employees save time in an array of often-tedious tasks, including managing inventory, building event agendas and itineraries, sharing internal reports, and tracking contacts. Lists is also being targeted at schools, where teachers can use the app to track their students’ progress, and in health care, where hospitals and medical offices can use the app for patient support and discharge planning. If you’re an IT pro in virtually any business that uses Microsoft 365, you will probably find Lists to be a nice addition.

As with most Microsoft 365 products, you don’t have to start from scratch. Lists includes templates for many everyday tasks, including employee onboarding, issue tracking, and asset management. You can customize these templates for your needs. And in these times when many employees are working from home, your lists sync immediately, so they are updated throughout your company.

Seth Patton, who leads the marketing team for Microsoft 365 productivity solutions, says, “Lists works seamlessly with other apps, such as Excel, SharePoint, Power Apps (custom forms), Power Automate (customer flows), and Power BI, enabling our customers to build powerful information-tracking solutions at a fraction of the time and effort it typically takes to create custom apps from scratch.”

Microsoft Lists in Microsoft Teams:

Just a few weeks after the general availability rollout, Microsoft announced that the app was available in Microsoft Teams for all commercial and U.S. government community customers (GCC). According to Microsoft, you can create lists from within Teams and use them on the Teams mobile app. You simply access the Lists tab that you added as a channel.

Lists in Teams comes with eight templates that can be customized for any industry. There are also three industry-specific templates for health-care companies (patient tracking), government agencies (incident reports), and financial services (loans).
