Multicasting with Windows Deployment Services and MDT 2010

Can you use MDT 2010 together with Windows Deployment Services to perform multicast deployments? Yes but you need to know how to make this work. For example, let's say you have a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that has the Windows Deployment Services role installed. You configure Windows Deployment Services to perform multicast deployment, and you import boot and install images for Windows 7 into the Windows Deployment Services store using the Windows Deployment Services MMC console. You try performing multicast deployment using Windows Deployment Services alone, and you've verified that it works because you can see the client session under Multicast Transmission in the Windows Deployment Services console.

Now you install MDT 2010 on the same server and you want to deploy Windows 7 using MDT while advantage of the multicasting capabilities of Windows Deployment Services. What you must do to make this work is to import the Windows 7 image into your MDT deployment share. You cannot use MDT to perform multicast deployment of Windows images in the Windows Deployment Services store, the images must first be imported into the MDT deployment share because of how the LTIApply.wsf script works in MDT.
