Nexenta to Offer Containers

Recently the storage company Nexenta said they’re going to start offering Docker containers in the Nexenta Edge Software Defined Storage Solution. They will be joining the Open Container Initiative as well as the Cloud Native Computing Foundation as part of this new solution. There hope is to embrace cloud native apps for companies looking for next generation data center solutions.

While containers aren’t huge yet, it looks like they’re not going away any time soon. As container solutions grow, developers will be able to offer better cloud applications at scale as containers don’t use as much of a footprint as virtual machines and bare metal servers do. Nexenta is also said to be teaming with VMware’s project Photon to use VMware based containers which are actually contained within a lightweight VM. They may also be compatible with Kubernetes, Google’s answer to micro-services (containers).
