OpenStack Projects – Swift

Swift will be the OpenStack project we briefly describe in this blog. Swift allows users to utilize Object Storage which may be a little difficult to wrap your head around if you’re used to traditional block or file storage.Object storage essentilaly lives and dies with an object, or in this case more likely and OpenStack instance. The storage capacity is simply as large as it needs to be for each VM, container, or phsyical machine. Once that instance is removed the object storage is not longer being used.

This has become a very popular way of handling storage, especially in cloud environments. It can cut down on storage administration as well as allows your storage to be fully utilized, as opposed to carving out LUNs and not being able to use parts of the LUN.
