Prevent Users from Reopening Last Browsing Session in Internet Explorer 8

Being able to restore the last browsing session in Internet Explorer 8 is useful, but can also be a privacy issue for some. If this is the case, you can disable the feature. Here’s how using the Group Policy settings in the Windows XP, Vista, and 7 professional editions:

  1. Open the Group Policy editor by running gpedit.msc from the XP Run dialog or the Windows 7 or Vista search field on the Start Menu.
  2. Navigate to Computer or User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer.
  3. Set Turn off Reopen Last Browsing Session to Enabled.
