Windows Server 2008 Server Core R2 is released to manufacturing recently. With this edition Microsoft developers have designed a script which launches automatically when Server Core starts. Most of the administrative tasks can be performed using this script (e.g. changing computer name, IP, joining to domain, enabling remote desktop, etc). This is one time configuration. You might need to disable this after you have configured your Server Core to be used in the production environment.
To disable this, follow the steps outlined below:
- Go to Registry Editor.
- Navigate to the following location in the registry:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- Edit the value: SConfig and delete the C:\Windows\System32\sconfig.cmd.
- Restart your Server Core. You will see SConfig.CMD is not launched automatically this time.
