When you open the Exchange Management Console, many of you will know that there is a node entitled “Toolbox”. Clicking on this node will give you access to tools such as Performance Monitoring, the Exchange BPA, Message Tracking and Queue viewers to name but a few.
However, did you know that you can remove entries from the Toolbox?
Note: If you are going to use this tip – make sure that you have a backup of the registry!
Let’s say for instance that you do not wish for administrators to see the Database Troubleshooting tool in the list.
In order to remove this entry – open Regedit (START->RUN) and type “Regedit” and navigate to the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\AdminTools\Toolbox]
Find the key entry entitled “ExTRA-MDBMount” and delete the entry.
When you next start the EMC and navigate to the Toolbox – you will no longer see that entry
