Remove Windows Update Requirement at Shutdown

Windows Vista and 7 will sometimes force you to install Windows Updates when shutting down by removing the “Shutdown’ button and adding “Install Updates and then Shut Down computer”. However, you can ensure the plain “Shutdown” button will always appear by creating the following Registry entry:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Key: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

DWORD Name: NoAUAsDefaultShutdownOption

DWORD Value: 1
