“Spike” toolkit is behind big DDoS attacks

Akamai Technologies researchers have found that a newly discovered malware toolkit called Spike can execute large, multi-vector attacks against Windows, Linux and even ARM-based devices. It has been used to successfully compromise PCs, servers, routers, and Internet of Things devices such as home appliances and “smart” thermostats.

The toolkit apparently originated in China, since its interface is written in Mandarin.
