Symantec report shows huge increase in number of targeted attacks

According to Symantec’s report, the amount of “traditional” spam has decreased, although not dramatically (from 75 percent of email in 2011 to 69 percent in 2012). That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the increase in malware-infected email messages was significant – a 30 percent increase – and the rise in the number of targeted attacks – 42 percent – was even bigger. Small businesses were targeted in 31 percent of those attacks.

The bad news gets even worse when you look at the number of mobile malware attacks, with 387 vulnerabilities aimed at iOS and 13 at Android.
