TROUBLESHOOTING: MDT password issues

PROBLEM: You’re using MDT to perform a fully automated Lite Touch installation of Windows 7 using settings you’ve configured in Boot.ini, CustomSettings.ini, and in the MDT database. You’re trying to specify a password for the local administrator account but you’re getting an error saying that the password is missing. You’ve examined the MDT logs but can’t find any entries relating to “password” in them. What can you do?

RESOLUTION: By default MDT logging does not log any entries containing “password” in them. If you want MDT logging to log password-related events during deployment, you must enable debug logging. To enable debug logging for Lite Touch deployment, drop into a command prompt at the beginning of deployment and run the following command:

cscript.exe x:\deploy\scripts\litetouch.wsf /debug:true
