Use PowerShell to quickly find network statistics

Here’s a tip from my colleague Ed Wilson (the Microsoft Scripting Guy) about how to use PowerShell to quickly find network statistics.

Question: You want a snapshot of the number of received and sent bytes from your network adapter. How can you use Windows PowerShell to get this information?

Answer: Use the Get-NetAdapterStatistics function on your Windows 8.1 computer with Windows PowerShell 4.0. An example of the command appears here:

Get-NetAdapterStatistics -Name *external*
