Using Audit Mode for Sysprep

Audit mode for Sysprep is generally used only by OEMs who are building and customizing computers for large customers. But you can use this mode in your organization too if you have the need for it. Here are the usual steps you would follow:

  1. Install Vista on your master computer, run sysprep and select audit mode, and image the computer.
  2. Then when you are ready to deploy images, boot your master computer into audit mode, install applications, configure settings, and then run sysprep again and reseal your computer so that the machine OOBE will launch during the next boot.
  3. Shut down your computer, image it again, and deploy your image to the destination computers you are going to provide to your customers.
