VMware Ditches vRAM Pricing Model

At VMworld 2012, VMware announced that they would be killing off the vRAM pricing model (sometimes referred to this as a vTax). “We’re killing off the vRAM pricing. It’s the wrong model,” said Gelsinger to cheers from the audience. Maritz acknowledged in a briefing after the keynotes that eliminating vRAM pricing “was an admission that we had made things overly complex. In effect, mea culpa.”

So, I think this is a good move. However, I tweeted that “vRAM is like New Coke. Let’s make something you don’t want so that when we get rid of it you will love us!” At least VMware saw the error of their ways and fixed it.
