Windows 2000 USB Networking Installation

Parallel Technologies, the creator/ inventor/ developer
of the DirectParallel® technology licensed to Microsoft
for the Direct Cable Connection (DCC) feature in
Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP ( supplier of the fast
DirectParallel® cable and of USB connection cables).

For the Net-LinQ USB Network Cable from Parallel Technologies, I made the installation on
Windows 2000 Professional, which is almost identical to the installation on Windows XP
(as example for an Windows95,98,ME USB Network installation) according to the
Net-LinQ Installation & User’s Manual ( there is a different setup procedure for Windows98/ME ) :

Important Note: Do not use these Installation Instructions for Windows 95/98
See separate Windows 95/98 Installation & User’s ManualRead all of the steps below before you start installing the driver, Do Not plug your Net-LinQ USB Connection Cable into the USB port of your computer.
Follow the steps below to install driver of the Net-LinQ USB Connection Cable:

1. Power on the computers where you will connect Net-LinQ: USB Connection Cable. Log on as Administrator.

2. Make sure that the USB port is enabled and working properly.

Check your Device Manager
(in the Control-Panel “System”
on the tab: “Hardware” ) :
Open Universal Serial Bus Controller
and make sure there are no errors on
either the USB Controller or
the USB Root Hub

3. Insert the driver diskette for the Network Bridge Application for Windows 2000 into the floppy drive and run the A:\ Setup.exe program inside the driver diskette. (Do not plug in the cable yet)

4. The Install Shield Wizard first will read the package…”USB-USB Network Bridge Driver v1.2b 0310 for Windows 2000″ , continue with “Next” :

and then will guide you step-by-step to complete the installation process :
– you should accept the default for the Destination Folder, just continue with “Next”:

When you get to the Digital Signature Box – Click Yes.

The Setup is now Complete :

Finish.

5. Please remove the driver diskette from your floppy drive and Restart your computer.

6. When Windows has completely rebooted, connect the Net-LinQ USB Connection Cable. This will install the cable driver as a device that now works with your USB Controller.

Note: Be sure the Found New Hardware dialog box says that it is installing USB-USB Network Bridge Driver for Windows 2000. If it doesn’t – stop here and go to Troubleshooting section of this manual

7. Reboot your computer with the Net-LinQ USB Connection Cable plugged in.

8. Open Device Manager:

expand (click on the ‘+’-sign )
for both Network Adapters
and Universal Serial Bus Controllersand check that all the devices are
working properly.

9. Check that your Windows Network Properties are all set up. Right click on My Network Places and select Properties :
select the Local Area Connection that is designated for your USB network.
(If you have also an Ethernet adapter installed, you will have multiple connections:

then you need to check which is for the USB-adapter)

Right click and select Properties.
You will have:
– Client for Microsoft Networks
– TCP/IP
– File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
You need to add NetBEUI-protocol and if
any of the required components above is
missing :
– follow the steps below to install the rest
of your Network Components.

Adding Protocols and Services:

-Click on Install Button – Highlight / Select Client – click Add

-In the Select Network Client panel: Highlight / Select Microsoft – click Add – Highlight / Select Client for Microsoft Networks – click OK

-Click on the Install Button-Highlight / Select Services -click Add – Highlight File & Printer Sharing – click OK

-If the TCP/IP protocol is not already installed, do steps P1 – P4 below:

P1 – Click on the Install Button

P2 – Highlight/Select Protocol – click Add

P3 – Highlight/Select Microsoft – click Add

P4 – Highlight/Select TCP/IP click OK

-Repeat Steps P1 thru P4 above for the NetBEUI protocol.
Your configuration should be:

Reboot your computer for the new settings to take effect.

10. Since USB-USB Network Bridge Driver V1.2b 0310 has finished installing the network driver during the installation, your USB network environment is set up automatically when the installation is complete.

It may take several minutes for My Network Places to see the other computers.
It’s OK to wait.

Depending on your system, you may want to Map a Network Drive to see the other computers on the Network. When you can see all the computers in your network in My Network Places, you can share programs files and other peripheral devices through the standard Windows interfaces, e.g. Windows Explorer and Network Places.

Once the systems are shown in the Network Neighborhood, you can use
the network as shown in the Step-by-Step networking procedure .
You can use a USB-network to setup Internet Connection Sharing for
Windows98SE or Windows2000.
