Some small number of people are reporting PS/2 keyboard or mouse failures in the
Windows 2000 newsgroups . The installation goes fine, but after reboot, the
keyboard and/or mouse does not respond. The solution taken by those effected is
to change to USB versions keyboard / mouse combinations. No common factor noted
yet.
The majority of modern PCs use ps/2 style keyboards and mice so its not a
general failure. I am running Windows 2000 Professional workstation on just such
a configuration.
There seems to be a bug in Windows 2000 support for PS/2 mouse when there is
another pointer source such as a touchpad or drawing tablet. Sometimes you have
to disable the other devices before W2K supports the PS/2 mouse properly.
