Once a Dial-Up Networking connection is configured, you are ready to make the connection:
To establish the connection, double-click your connection. Depending on whether you configured to “Connect automatically“, you will or will not get the “Connect To” window. It allows to verify/modify the Username, password and the phone-number. When traveling with a notebook, where you need to adjust the phone-number due to different prefixes (for examples to dial via a switchboard at a hotel), you need to display this window. |
On selecting “Connect” you modems starts dialing. | |
It will verify with the remote computer your Username and Password. |
You are connected ! To avoid to have to close this window on future connections, place the checkmark on “Do not display this message in the future” You have now in your taskbar the icon for Dial-Up networking as an indicator of having a connection (reminding you that to need later to disconnect ).(no icon in the taskbar ?) Place your cursor on it and it displays the amount of data transferred and the connection speed: |
The icon in the taskbar is also a traffic indicator, showing ingoing and outgoing communication. |

If you are NOT getting the icon for Dial-Up Networking in your taskbar, select in the window “Dial-Up Networking” in the menu “Connections” / “Settings“ |
