A European Union security agency has reported that botnets are able to thrive in part because of the lack of international cooperation and coordination in helping to track down and prosecute the perpetrators. Botnets are a major component of the cybercrime “industry,” and botnet-infected computers are responsible for millions of dollars worth of loss to companies and individuals.
