In my “Uncovering the new RPC Client Access Service in Exchange 2010 (Part 1)” articles series, I among other things explain how you assign static ports for the RPC Client Access service and the Exchange Address Book Service. For the RPC Client Access Service, you need to add a DWORD registry key named “TCP/IP Port” under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeRpc\ParametersSystem and specify the port you want to assign.
For the Address Book Service, you had to assign a static port using the “Microsoft.exchange.addressbook.service.exe.config” file located in the Exchange Bin folder:
Well, with Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 the latter has changed. With Exchange 2010 SP1, you no longer use the “Microsoft.exchange.addressbook.service.exe.config” file to assign the static RPC port for the Exchange Address Book Service.
Instead, you do so by creating a new REG_SZ registry key named “RpcTcpPort” under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeAB\Parameters
Note that you need to create the “Parameters” key.
So remember the above if you’re playing around with static port assignments in the Exchange 2010 SP1 beta build that was released to the public the other day.
