Live@edu OLSync Directory Synchronization Tool

Microsoft recently released Live@edu OLSync Directory Synchronization Tool for use with Identity Lifecycle Manager 2007 (32-bit and 64-bit).

Directory synchronization tool used to replicate and synchronize user information between on-premises Active Directory and the Live@edu Outlook Live tenant domain.

Overview
OLSync is a directory synchronization tool used to replicate and synchronize user information between your on-premises Active Directory Domain Services or Active Directory directory service and Outlook Live for Live@edu.

System requirements

Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2008

Hardware

  • x64-capable processor, 2 GB of available hard disk space, 4 GB or more of RAM (if > 50,000 accounts, 6 GB recommended)
  • Monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution, and CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

Software

  • 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition, which includes Windows PowerShell 2.0, and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1
    • When you install Windows Server 2008, do not install Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services (not to be confused with Remote Desktop Connection). If you install Terminal Services, the FIM 2010 server components do not install.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 64-bit Standard or Enterprise, Service Pack 1, or later
    • Database Engine Services and Management Tools – Basic must be installed
    • SQL Server can be installed on a remote server and does not have to be on the same server as the FIM 2010 Synchronization Service server
  • If you plan to develop rule extensions, Visual Studio 2008
  • If you are using Exchange 2007, Exchange 2007 SP1 Management Console
  • Forefront Identity Manager 2010
    • Required component: Synchronization Service.
      All other FIM 2010 components including FIM Service, FIM Portal, FIM Password Portal, and FIM add-ins and extensions are not required.
    • If you are deploying Forefront Identity Manager at a school, you may qualify for the discounted EDU SKU. For more information, contact your Education License Reseller.
  • Internet connectivity. The server running FIM 2010 must be able to communicate with both internal Active Directory servers and Outlook Live.
