From fire to the wheel to gunpowder to the splitting of the atom to DNA research to nanotech – and beyond – every new technology has the potential to be used for good purposes or for evil (or at least unsavory) ones. Is this the responsibility of the individual or company that discovers/makes it? It’s an ethical question (as well as a legal one) that’s still being kicked around. And it came to the forefront recently when a network defense tool created by CloudShield was used by foreign intelligence agencies for offensive cyber operations.
