Best practices for configuring ISA/TMG to allow SQM data

SQM data? Squim data? What in the world is that? Haven’t we been using ISA firewalls for years and never heard of a SQM? OK, maybe you have, I don’t remember waving at it when driving over the ISA highway for almost a decade.

Maybe SQM is part of the Microsoft FlexGo Technology 2.0?

What’s FlexGo? This article isn’t too helpful

I couldn’t find anything useful on the Microsoft site, so I Googled (I would have used Live Search, but it already failed when I searched the Microsoft site).

Of course! Wikipedia had the answer:

FlexGo is a technology developed by Microsoft to enable users to pay for using a fully-featured personal computer based on the amount of time it used for, similar to pay as you go for cell phones. Another method of payment would be a monthly subscription. It was introduced on May 22, 2006. IBM and other corporations are also adapting similar business models to expand into new markets.

FlexGo’s main target audience are those in Third World Countries or people with unsteady income. It had been featured under a topic on Leo Laporte‘s This Week in Tech, Episode 57 “Vloggercon”.”

So, the ISA/TMG Firewall Team blog has an article to show you how to allow the FlexGo and FlexGo SQM data through the ISA or TMG firewall (I think). Check it out here:

(Hey guys! When you publish articles on stuff that no one’s ever heard of, could you give a little background? Thanks! –Tom)
