Intel Xeon E5 family expanded with 12 new processors to address diverse needs of storage & communications markets

Intel Xeon processor E5-2400 v2 product family includes 12 different models featuring up to 10 cores that support twosocket server, storage and communication systems.  The E5-2400 v2 product family compliments the E5-2600 v2 product family by extending the low voltage offering and offering configurations specifically designed for communication and storage.

With the addition of the E5-2400 v2 product family, the E5 product line will now have more than 30 different processors for 1S and 2S configurations allowing for unprecedented choice in processor selection in order to achieve optimal performance and efficiency when running a variety of workloads.   For example, the E5-2400 v2 product family brings down the TDP to 50W.  Lower TDP SKUs are especially useful for embedded designs in the communications market where the system power envelope is constrained.  These lower TDP processors can also be integrated into very dense server racks and blades, and can help to drive up compute density and help drive down TCO.

The Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2400 v2 product family includes storage extensions such as Asynchronous DRAM Refresh and x16 Non-transparent bridging that help to enhance data protection and replication which is valuable for storage usages.  The product family provides the performance, I/O, and memory capabilities for a wide range of compute-intensive embedded and communications applications, including: servers, blades, and appliances for communications infrastructure; medical, storage systems, and security applications; carrier-grade rack-mount servers; and proprietary form factors, such as router modules.

Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2400 v2 product family is a socket compatible replacement for the Intel® Xeon®processor E5-2400 product family and offers up to 23 percent more performance1   as compared to the previous generation. The E5-2400 v2 supports security features, such as the hardware based entropy source Intel® Secure Key, and features to enhance virtualization performance, such as Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller virtualization (APICv).

With such vast array of workloads across various markets, customers are looking for specific, customized configurations to achieve the best possible performance and performance per watt for their specific applications. We understand that and have expanded our portfolio to allow for a very fine-tuned choice when deciding about processors for the server, storage and communications markets.
