Citrix recently announced the general availability of a new cloud service offering called Citrix Managed Desktops. The desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) solution is meant to provide a quick and simple method for delivering Windows apps and desktops from Azure directly to any device. It’s available to users now on a monthly subscription basis.
Although Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops still provide a more robust virtualization service, Citrix Managed Desktops is designed to provide a quick and simple experience for organizations, IT pros, and end-users. Here are some of the top benefits for potential users to consider when getting started with this new service.
Citrix Managed Desktops is designed to be a turnkey service. You shouldn’t need a high level of IT experience to use it to deliver virtual apps and desktops to workers around the world on demand. Since it’s a managed service, it provides everything you need with minimal assembly needed to get started.
Citrix is known for providing a high definition user experience through technology like HDX. Basically, it’s designed to provide a pristine desktop image at every login. It also gives users the capability to offer both non-domain-joined and domain-joined desktops on any device around the world at any time.
With Citrix Managed Desktops, you can connect to your corporate resources such as Active Directory and file services using VNet peering into your Azure subscription. Citrix is also working on SD-WAN for Citrix Managed Desktops that will simplify the experience even more. This feature has yet to be released.
Citrix Managed Desktops are available to end-users globally. And Citrix Cloud customers in the United States, the European Union, and Asia/Pacific control planes can provision app and desktop workloads now. More regions are slated to add this functionality soon.
