Docker Enterprise 3.0 desktop-to-cloud container tool generally available

Docker Enterprise 3.0, the desktop-to-cloud enterprise container platform that lets organizations build and share applications to run from anywhere, is now generally available. More than 2,000 users participated in the public beta program leading up to the general availability release. Here are some of the benefits that stood out to those users and the corresponding features that might benefit enterprises going forward.

Simplifying Kubernetes

Kubernetes is an incredibly powerful tool. But many users haven’t been able to use it to its full potential due to its complexity. Docker Enterprise 3.0 includes a Certified Kubernetes distribution offering called Docker Kubernetes Service. It integrates directly with Kubernetes from the developer desktop to production servers. And it includes sensible secure defaults to help users make the experience more intuitive.

Automating container deployment

The new Docker also includes some new lifecycle automation tools for day 1 and 2 operations. These tools are meant to help customers speed up and expand the deployment of containers. They use simple CLI commands to simplify deployment, scaling, backing up, restoring, and upgrading Docker enterprise clusters across a variety of different environments.

Building modern applications

Docker Enterprise 3.0 also gives organizations easy access to two new resources: Docker Desktop Enterprise and Docker Application. Docker Desktop Enterprise is a developer tool that speeds up developer onboarding and helps organizations improve productivity. Docker Application, which is based on the CNAB standard, is an application format that allows developers to bundle distributed resources that make up a modern application into a single object. This allows it to be shared more easily and then installed and run in any environment.

With Docker Desktop Enterprise, users can also quickly and easily create Docker Applications with the help of predefined Application Templates. Those templates support any language or framework, so organizations can enjoy plenty of versatility.
